FEVI is an accredited full member of CCIVS, UNESCO Coordinating Committee for International Volunteer Service.
MISSION
To provide adequate intercultural learning space and resources for the care and education of low income children. To promote peace, solidarity, friendship, tolerance, among all cultures. To offer international and local volunteers the opportunity to serve and share time with low income communities in Ecuador.
PHILOSOPHY
Each and everyone of us shape our communities in many ways, helping those in need, protecting our environment, our health, promoting the arts and ensuring that the next generation receives the care and attention they deserve.
ALL YEAR AROUND PROGRAMS
FEVI arranges community service visits from people all over the world to smaller, less fortunate communities in Ecuador. We develop and support projects for the education and well being of children, indigenous communities, public schools. Some of their numerous projects include schools, childcare centers, a juvenile prison, a community dining hall for the elderly as well as farming, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.
FEVI community development services opened on May 2nd, 2005. They started their work with school age kids setting up their first FEVI Learning Center on May 2nd, 2005. Their first international volunteer, Jevon Newman, came from the United States to work in Yaruqui Hospital for four months. During the summer of 2005, they held their first international volunteers camp with their partner organization Volunteers for Peace.
Three years of intense work have gone into constructing the foundations of the organization. They have constructed the Santa Ines Child Care Center with the help of the parents of the little kids, and the Santa Ines community. They opened our Santa Ines Child Care Center on April 2007. FEVI pays a full time teacher for the Santa Ines kids.
In Tonsupa, Esmeraldas province, They have constructed two classrooms for the Gonzalo Pizarro School. This project was made possible thanks to the hard work of FEVI long term volunteers coming from their partner organization United Planet in Boston. FEVI, with volunteers from Illinois also helped in the construction and provision of tubed water for the families of the kids attending the Gonzalo Pizarro School, in the Recinto Estero del Tigre in Esmeraldas province.
Right now they are finishing a Child Care Center in Lumbisi. The Lumbisi school will be opening to serve the Lumbisi kids in April 2008. Their second group of ICYE long term volunteers helped in the construction of this center. These ICYE volunteers are also helping the Lumbisi community with the construction of the FEVI Organic Garden, for the children and elderly in the Lumbisi community. The FEVI local and international volunteers are also significantly involved in the construction of the Lumbisi Ecological Park, for the benefit of the communities in Lumbisi and Quito.
“Our goals for the future are to continue strengthening our alliances with local and international organizations so that our community service work can actually make a difference in the lives of the communities we serve. We want to see our native kids getting excellent education and nutrition, our elderly being taken care of properly and lovingly, our families having job opportunities and enjoying and caring for their precious, ancestral land.” - Maria Barragan FEVI Director
